Collection: Pests - Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs were once thought to be gone forever but have made an incredible comeback within the last 10 years.   The main reason is they are no longer successfully controlled using traditional, synthetic pesticides.  But Greenbug products are natural and exceptionally effective in controlling bed bugs.

There are two treatment options for Bed Bugs using Greenbug.  There is Bed Bug Prevention to avoid getting them and Bed Bug Treatment if you have a confirmed infestation (locate 2 or more adult bed bugs a/o see evidence of bed bugs in 2 places).

Treatment for Bed Bugs:  Bed Bug Prevention

Materials needed:

Greenbug for People/Pets

  1. Prior to entering a vulnerable location such as a hotel room, public transportation, a public seating area (theater), doctor’s office, school or even if visiting relatives, lightly spray Greenbug for People/Pets directly on your person and clothing. Please note there is no staining or residue and will dry clear.
  2. Lightly spray Greenbug for People/Pets directly on luggage and belongings.
  3. If staying in a hotel room, thoroughly inspect ALL layers of bed linens and lightly spray with Greenbug for People/Pets – down to the mattress - then under/behind the headboard and the artwork above the bed.
  4. Spray yourself, luggage and belongings with Greenbug for People/Pets before traveling home.
  5. Before entering your home, lightly spray yourself and clothing down with Greenbug for People/Pets.
  6. If you suspect you have been exposed to bed bugs, you may place your clothes in an unused garbage bag that has been sprayed inside with Greenbug for People/Pets. Seal the bag tightly, shake so the Greenbug for People/Pets is distributed throughout the contents, and wait three days before opening.  Launder as normal after the three days.
  7. Please note the 2-ounce Greenbug for People/Pets bottle is intentionally small enough to pass through airport security for extra protection while traveling.
  8. Thoroughly inspect all new purchases of clothing, furniture, decorative pillows, imported purchases for bed bugs and lightly spray with Greenbug for People/Pets. This is especially important when items are purchased second hand, via thrift stores or at garage/yard sales.

Treatment for Bed Bugs:  Bed Bug infestation

Materials needed:

Greenbug Fogger Bundle (either purchased or rented fogger) listed as a Mite Treatment Bundle as the treatment is the same

Greenbug for People/Pets using 1 quart per 1000 square feet of treated area

Greenbug Ready to Use or

Greenbug Concentrate

Respirator for each person involved in the treatment

Safety Goggles for each person involved in the treatment

Vacuum Cleaner

  1. Vacuum entire area thoroughly. Vacuum the surfaces of bedding, upholstered furniture, drapes and rugs as possible.  Pull furniture from existing locations to vacuum underneath.  Pay special care to the corners and areas where carpet abuts a wall.
  2. Wash linens, bedding and affected belongings using the hottest possible settings in the washer and dryer. Add ¼ cup of properly diluted Greenbug Concentrate to the fabric softener cycle.
  3. Prior to treatment, turn off all pilot lights. Turn off smoke alarms and alert security system monitoring companies as the fog can trigger smoke alarms.  Remove all animals/pets and plants from areas to be fogged.
  4. Remove all switch plates and outlet covers.
  5. Pull furniture and artwork away from the walls. Separate mattress and box springs and set each on the side to access all surfaces of mattress and box springs.
  6. If needed, remove the protective under cloth from box springs in order to treat.
  7. Turn the dial on the fogger to the smallest droplet size output.  This allows the Greenbug for People/Pets to penetrate more easily.
  8. Fog the area using the Greenbug Fogger and Greenbug for People/Pets (1 quart per 1000 square feet of coverage) using the smallest droplet setting on the fogger. All involved must use a respirator (not face mask) and goggles.
  9. Beginning at the far side of each room, aim the fogger directly at all potential hiding spots – behind draperies, under and behind furniture, bed frames, mattresses, box springs, rugs, curtains, stuffed animals, pillows, etc. Make sure the mist falls evenly and penetrates thoroughly. Pry fabric apart, blast up under and into upholstered furniture, fog all nooks and crannies as you move your way out of the room.
  10. If treating an entire home, it is wise to treat the HVAC duct work as well. Take out the filter to the HVAC unit. Turn the system to ‘Fan’ and ‘On’ so that there is air circulation.  Direct the fogger into the intake vent to make sure fog moves throughout the duct work.  As soon as you witness fog coming out of the vents, the duct work treatment is done and you may turn off the fan.
  11. Allow the fog to penetrate a minimum of 4 hours to overnight. Upon returning, wear the respirator and goggles if any fog remains. Air out the areas that have been fogged by opening windows, using fans, and/or by running the HVAC to circulate the air.  Clean the room as usual and you can inhabit immediately after the fog has dissipated.
  12. You can also purchase heavy duty, black construction garbage bags and place belongings inside the bag(s) and fog inside the bags with Greenbug for People/Pets. Seal the bags tightly, shake to distribute the Greenbug for People/Pets fog vapor throughout the contents, and keep sealed for at least 3 days.
  13. Treatment can be repeated after 4 hours.  Depending on the severity of the infestation, multiple treatments may be necessary.
  14. After treatment, lightly spray the vacuum hose and canister with Greenbug for People/Pets to control any bed bugs or eggs within the vacuum cleaner.
  15. Spray Greenbug Concentrate, properly diluted on linens and bedding once a week until confident there are no more bed bugs.
