How to Control Fleas

Your precious Fur Baby has fleas.  Yuck!  You don’t want to use toxic, chemical spot drops… they have been shown to shorten a pet’s life by as much as 25%, uh, no thanks! How do you control fleas?

Greenbug offers easy to use, simple flea control using ingredients from Nature herself.  Read below to figure out exactly how to control fleas!

If you have an active doggie that primarily stays indoors except for walks on a leash:

Thoroughly vacuum your entire home, especially along the baseboards to get rid of all dormant flea eggs.

Wash all bedding where your doggie sleeps in the hottest water possible, adding ¼ cup of properly diluted Greenbug Concentrate or 1/4 cup of Greenbug Ready to Use in the fabric softener cycle of the wash.

Bathe your Fur Baby adding some properly diluted Greenbug Concentrate or Greenbug Ready to Use when doing the shampooing.  Use a 1:1 ratio of Greenbug to shampoo, work the Greenbug/shampoo suds into the fur and down to the skin to contact fleas and eggs in the fur.

Spray all baseboards and doggie sleeping areas with properly diluted Greenbug Concentrate or Greenbug Ready to Use once a day for three days.  This doesn’t have to be sprayed until it is wet – just a light application is all that is needed.

Before going outside and being exposed to fleas, spray some Greenbug for People/Pets into your hands and run through the fur.  If you forget to apply before the walk, you can apply afterwards.

If you have a doggie that stays outside in a fenced yard but comes inside every so often:

Vacuum all areas inside the house that your baby sleeps/sits or stays.

Wash all bedding, linens, cushions, etc. where your doggie sleeps in the hottest water possible, adding ¼ cup of properly diluted Greenbug Concentrate or 1/4 cup of Greenbug Ready to Use in the fabric softener cycle of the wash.

Spray the outdoor area using either a backpack sprayer, pump sprayer, or hose-end sprayer with diluted Greenbug Concentrate every day for three days making sure it dries between applications.  Continue to spray every other day 3 additional times.

In between baths, you can spray some Greenbug for People/Pets into your hands and work into the fur about every three days or so to maintain the flea control.  As long as you have even a slight aroma of Greenbug in the fur, you are actively controlling fleas.

It is more challenging to control fleas outdoors so this protocol may need to be repeated.

If you have an indoor kitty:

Thoroughly vacuum your entire home, especially along the baseboards to get rid of all dormant flea eggs.

Wash all bedding, linens, cushions, etc. where your Kitty Cat sleeps in the hottest water possible, adding ¼ cup of properly diluted Greenbug Concentrate or 1/4 cup of Greenbug Ready to Use in the fabric softener cycle of the wash.

Spray all baseboards and kitty sleeping areas with properly diluted Greenbug Concentrate or Greenbug Ready to Use once a day for three days.  This doesn’t have to be sprayed until it is wet – just a light application is all that is needed.

Soak a cotton ball or a wad of tissue with Greenbug for People/Pets.  Have a wet rag or paper towel handy that you have soaked with water and another rag or paper towel that is dry.  Using a flea comb on your kitty bitty, when you see a flea, apply the Greenbug to the flea via the cotton ball or tissue wad.  (Try to remove the flea but it will die soon if it scurries away into the fur.)  Using the rag or paper towel soaked in water, wipe off the fur/skin area where you applied the Greenbug for People/Pets and then dry the area with the clean, dry rag.  Kitty cats are self-groomers and the Greenbug for People/Pets tastes terrible - so you want to wipe it away to make their lives as pleasant as possible!

Spray the outdoor area using either a backpack sprayer, pump sprayer, or hose-end sprayer with diluted Greenbug Concentrate every day for three days making sure it dries between applications.  Continue to spray every other day 3 additional times.

Spraying the outdoor area is the most important step in flea control and may need to be repeated bi-weekly during peak flea season.  Apply on your cat if necessary but only as a last resort to control fleas.
