How To Keep Mosquitoes From Biting
Ever wondered why a mosquitoes bite certain people and not others? Some people are mosquito magnets while others rarely, if ever, need mosquito control. Why is that and what can you do about it?
Mosquitoes are driven by pheromones which are things they smell. They aren't looking at the world through their eyes - they navigate life via their ability to smell. Primarily, they are sniffing for a food source. They are completely smell-driven so if you get a lot of mosquito bites, then you smell really great to them!
Well, excuse me, but calling someone a great smell for mosquitoes isn't exactly an insult. Unless you smell like ammonia and now it is time for a bath (more later on that). The scents mosquitoes seek out are numerous and complex and often something we as humans, cannot smell. So, being attractive to mosquitoes does not necessarily mean you smell bad to people! The Number One identifying smell factor for mosquitoes is Carbon Dioxide - that which we exhale as we breathe.
In other words, just by breathing, you are attractive to mosquitoes and are at risk of mosquito bites. If you are actively exercising, you breathe out even more Carbon Dioxide making you even more attractive. Other scents that attract them are lactic acid, uric acid, ammonia and other human emitted substances. If you exercise a lot, you release lactic acid from your muscles via your breath and sweat. Uric acid can build up when we are not hydrated enough and also leaves the body via breathing and perspiring. And we've all had the unfortunate encounter with someone who's body odor was like straight ammonia - imagine the mosquito bites that person would receive! Perhaps step one in keeping mosquitoes from biting is to eliminate the opportunity to smell like ammonia and bathe regularly...
Seriously though, good hygiene is a great way to keep mosquitoes from biting. And after the shower, hold off on scented body sprays, body lotions, perfumes and other products. Many of these products use synthetic odors that can draw mosquitoes to you like a moth to flame. You might smell of 'Fresh Laundry' but to a skeeter, you are inviting them to lunch!
The one ingredient found in Nature that can keep mosquitoes from biting is Cedar. Cedar isn't just a bad smell for mosquitoes, it is deadly. Cedar controls mosquitoes, therefore, Greenbug controls mosquitoes. So, using Greenbug is a great way to keep mosquitoes from biting. This is why you don't see bugs in a cedar chest or closet because cedar is the magic ingredient. Grandma had her cedar chest so she knew. And now you know too.
Greenbug for People/Pets uses all natural Cedar Oil to keep mosquitoes from biting. Just a light spray with Greenbug for People/Pets is a wonderful aroma of Cedar. But to a mosquito, it is the smell of death and they will completely avoid it.
