SC Resident Dies From EEE, a Mosquito Transmitted Disease
For the first time in more than 20 years, a man living in South Carolina has died as a result of a mosquito. The Beaufort County resident died due to complications from Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), which is a mosquito transmitted disease.
This disease must be spread by an infected mosquito that picked up EEE from another mammal and then injected it into the new victim. Although it is a rare viral disease, it is often fatal when it progresses to neurological infection.
